Specialized Weekend Rest

Specialized Weekend Rest

Since there is a growing demand for specialized rest, Le Pilier Foundation decided to act properly about the priority needs of several families with intellectually impaired children, whether young or mature.

At the Marcelle & Jean Coutu Center, the residential care facility offers a maximum of fifteen (15) adapted placements. All the space is now entirely accessible for handicapped persons. Living rooms are also provided for a better quality of life and the organization of many recreational activities.

The goal of this facility is to provide rest care on weekends to carers of developmentally disabled persons.

By definition, specialized respite care is temporary and short term residential services for a person living with a cognitive disability and having complex needs that require a specific specialized support.

The people concerned belong to two age groups. Each weekend is for one age group at a time.

Children 5-17 years old

Adults 18 years or +

Users of this service usually reside in Laval in their natural families and must register at the CRDITED of Laval via the determined access procedure. They must contact a social worker of their CLSC or their educator at the CRDITED LAval.

This service is also offered to non-residents of Laval, in family-type facilities or intermediate homes, if placement opportunities are available.

Children 5-17 years of age Children non-resident Adults 18 years old or + Adults non-resident
Friday (4 p.m.) to Sunday (7 p.m.) $175 $260 $205 $265
Friday (7 p.m.) to Sunday (7 p.m.) $160 $245 $190 $250
Saturday (a.m.) to Sunday (7 p.m.) $125 $170 $175 $230
Day- more than 6 hours 60 $ 70 $ 75 $ 95 $

TAKE NOTE: Additional costs may be charged if the user requires a staffing ratio greater than 1:3.

A specialized weekend respite is paid for by cheque made out to Le Pilier Foundation. We ask that parents provide the cheque at the latest on the Sunday evening when they come to pick up their child.

Le Pilier Foundation reserves the right to require a designated accompanying adult when a user is in need of a significant level of service. Additional costs can then be charged.

As you already know, the goal of the specialized respite for the weekend is to provide rest to parents and other carers of a person with a cognitive disability or a disruptive development disorder.

The demand for respite services is growing each year and the maximum number of places available for weekends is fifteen (15). When signing up for the first time to our specialized weekend respite services, application processing fees of $25 are charged (the fees are charged only once). Le Pilier Foundation wishes to help as many families as possible by providing an opportunity to all families to access at least a few placements during a quarter.

Le Pilier Foundation informs families (parents of adults or children) that they have until the previous Wednesday of the respite to cancel a weekend. If the weekend is cancelled after this date, families concerned will be charged $50. For some time now, some families cancel at the last minute their reservations. The CMJC ends up with placements that remain unclaimed and it is inconvenient for another family to learn one day in advance that a respite placement is available. We ask the families to confirm us the desired weekends. It is important for the Marcelle & Jean Coutu Centre that families honor their reservations.

Parents are asked to sign this form and return it to us as soon as possible.

Reservation

All weekend respite reservations must be made via the Reservation form. Please honor reservations. Any cancellation must be filed at least one week in advance. It is essential that the parent call to plan the respite weekend.

Personal file

The parents are required to fulfill a personal file and to bring a picture of their child (mandatory) before the first day of activity at the center. They will also need to sign the authorisations requested by Le Pilier Foundation. It is parent’s responsibility to report any changes regarding the personal file of the user: intervention plan, restraints, medication, etc. Le Pilier Foundation assumes no responsibility if any omission.

Medication

It is mandatory to bring their medication in well-identified dosette with the name and a picture of the user. The parents ensure that the dosage is exact. For any change of medication, the adapted activities department needs to be advised by letter. We are asking those who are suffering from severe allergies to bring their “EpiPen”. It is mandatory to have their health insurance card in their possession. Nursing care will only be provided if there is a special agreement with a CLSC. It is parent’s responsibility to report any change regarding the personal file of the user: intervention plan, restraints, medication, etc. Le Pilier Foundation assumes no responsibility if any omissions.

Allergies

For adapted activities, users need to bring their meal and a collation. If the parents would like to add some food, they need to be aware, because the CMJC will refuse any products, food, beverages with traces of nuts, peanuts and/or citrus (lemons, clementines, kumquats, bergamots, limes, tangerines, oranges, grapefruits and citrons) because of sever allergies. We are asking those who are suffering from severe allergies to bring their “EpiPen”.

Personal Effects

All clothes and personal effects must be clearly identified. Everyone must ensure to have enough clothes for their activities. Laundry will not be available, except if there’s soiled clothes. Users must bring their incontinence briefs and sanitary pads. Everyone will need to have a toiletry kit including hygiene articles in their possession.

Adapted Transport

Parents have the responsibility to reserve public or private adapted transport to go and to come back. Le Pilier Foundation is not assuming this service.

Smoking Restriction

Please note that it is forbidden to smoke in Marcelle & Jean Coutu center or in its backyard at any moment.
